TRAVEL TRICKS & TIPS - hotel booking

When you are organizing a trip, the second step to carry out is to choose the right HOTEL to book.
A good starting point could be
 www.TripAdvisor.com
it allow you to  immediately compare prices and offers of the several hotels on various sites such as:
•       Expedia.com
•       Booking.com
•       Hotels.com
Firstly you have to select the place/city and the date of arrival and departure and sort the list by price with cheapest first.
You can narrow the selection, by choosing the distance from the center: the outskirt is usually less expensive  than the center (further you are from the center the cheaper it is) however it could be time and money consuming to reach places of interest, normally in the city-center area.
If you want to visit a city for only 2 or 3 days, the advice is to book the hotel in the central area or in the 5-10 Km range, but again make sure you are very well connected via public transportation systems (cheaper than private one) such as underground, buses trains ect.
If you are driving a car, check whether the hotel offers free parking, in order to avoid the expensive parking in the big cities (it costs between 20$ and 80$ per day).
When you have narrowed the choice to a handful of hotels, you can also look at the opinions and average grades of the global travellers posted on Tripadvisors.com:
they are a good reference, even if sometimes discordant; moreover they are usually reach of interesting additional information (locations – distances - critical focus – etc.).
Absolutely don’t forget to compare the prices directly on the Hotel web-site: sometimes the hotel has convenient promotions open (often Hotel’s chains are making offer campaign directly).
Furthermore, on the multi-currency payment systems, check the best choice at the moment of the reservation, comparing the currency rates and fees applied by your bank (i.e. extra 1% charge paying with credit card in a currency different from the one of bank account).
In case you have to book a night during a stop-over, look for a hotel near the airport and with a complimentary shuttle service, you’ll save time and money.
When you are planning to visit a city, it is generally better not to rent a car straight after you ‘ve landed, use in the meanwhile the public transportation system, it’s cheaper and the best way for a deeper breath of the local air.
Then, just before leaving the city, rent the car for your touring trip and you ‘ll save money on rent and parking fees.
