is the north-east part of Valtellina in the heart of the Alps, near the Swiss boarder and 200 km far from Milan and offers amazing opportunities to have fun and enjoy deep experience in the nature, both during the summer and winter time.
HOW TO GET THERE:
- From the airports of Milano Malpensa (MPX), Milano Linate (LIN) and Bergamo Orio al Serio (BGY), there are bus and train connections to Milan Stazione Centrale, where every 2 hours there are direct trains to Tirano and than a bus to Bormio and Livigno (around 3.5h trip, look at http://www.trenord.it/it-it/).
- From the airport of Bergamo Orio al Serio (BGY), there is a direct bus service to Bormio and Alta Valtellina SKI area.
- By car you can get there with a 3h drive.
Apart many stimulating stops you can have on the way there, such as the area of Valchiavenna, with its typical Crotti (restaurant in the caves), Morbegno, town of the famous Bitto cheese, the vineyards and the fascinating wine cellars which characterize the area of Sondrio and Valmalenco, than Tirano and Teglio, villages of Pizzoccheri, finally you can face the tourist attractions of Bormio and his thermal water SPA sites, Livigno, Santa Caterina Valfurva and Stelvio park.
The area offers a perfect “play court” with a unique mix within the context of a warm and comfortable hospitality and the total well-being of thermal baths, to regenerate your body and mind.
A deep and active experience, thanks to the opportunities to interact with the natural environment, during the winter and the summer season too, tasting the flavors of tradition and savoring the fragrance of great wines.

In addition to modern skiing facilities, the town is noted for the presence of several hot springs, known since the Roman age, that have been tapped to provide hot spring water to spa baths at Bagni Vecchi, Bagni Nuovi and Terme di Bormio.
Furthermore there is a fully outdoor place with a free access, about 3km far from the town on the way to Livigno, called pool of water piscine (Italian: LA POZZA), an experience you can’t miss particularly during the winter when the unbalance temperature between the hot water at 41C and the snow and the ice outside it’s so relevant.
The village hosted the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships twice, in 1985 and 2005. Bormio is a regular stop on the World Cup circuit, usually with a men's downhill in late December. The Pista Stelvio, is one of the most challenging downhill courses in the world. It is second-longest course on the World Cup circuit, behind only the Lauberhorn in Wengen, Switzerland (longer but less breathtaking and curvy). All the season long, you can share your skiing session with the most skilled and trained skiers of the world sliding down slopes very deep and jumpy in the open spaces at 3000m altitude or in the middle of the woodland, a unique opportunity to improve and enrich your range of a ski experience.
If you are skilled enough and are driven by a great passion for ski touring and powder skiing, you have to ride down off pists such as Canalone and many different picks and slopes, but only if the snow and weather conditions are perfect and you are fully equipped with the tools required by the law (ARVA, Shovel, Probe) but you can’t do it using the ropeways of the area.
And don’t forget, could happen that the season is starting in November
Have fun
Over & Out
